Audio Mixer Diplay
Posted by Andre Morton on January 16, 2007 at 7:49 pmI’m attempting to mix down a multi track sequence in FCP 5.0.4 and my track levels dissappear. All of my audio is playing back fine but I can’t see my levels to adjust keyframing. Keyframe record is selected, everything is rendered but no levels other than the master appear. What gives?

January 16, 2007 at 8:23 pmThe first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.
Next:
THE FOLLOWING COMES FROM THE KEN STONE WEBSITE:
“Over 5,000 years ago Confucius wrote: ‘If you are toiling away, you have changed nothing and FCP heads South on you, [starts behaving in strange ways] then it is time to trash your FCP Preferences.’ ”Click the following link for instructions.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCP (Pro) & FCE (Express) and a new one for FCP 5.Download these free Apple Scripts at

January 16, 2007 at 8:57 pmI trashed the prefs nothings changed. And it’s set to canvas.
The only thing I’ve discovered is if the audio is unrendered the track display returns.
( Obviously I have to render to listen ) and when I do render poof they dissappear.
I intially rendered because after importing my aiff files from Pro tools all of my tracks were panned hard to 1 channel and after centering and layering several tracks, FCP needed to render to facilitate playback.
I’d mix this in Pro tools but their are latency issuses and I can adjust my sync in FCP if necc. Any more advice? -

January 18, 2007 at 12:59 amYou shouldn’t need to be rendering the audio. Perhaps your RT track count is still set to the (very low) default 8 tracks.
Final Cut Pro > User Preferences > General > Real-Time Audio Mixing
Make it 32 tracks and see what happens.
