I got this email from the director:

The sound guy for Mailroom told me that the sound is exported wrong. It’s not a big deal when viewing in on TV, but when it plays in the theatre the levels will show.

He just said you reversed the left and right channel of the sound. Example: When Peter is talking at the left side of the frame, the levels should be in the left channel and right now its on the right channel. Remember when I noticed that in a couple of scenes. It just got exported to the DVD reversed. So when it plays in the theatre, Peter will talk on the left side of the screen but the speaker of him talking will come from the right side.

Any comments on how to resolve this problem?

Yeah, switch the left and right outputs of the DVD player at the theatre. Is he right? Did this happen on export? Is the left and right okay in your timeline?

Tell peter to stand on the other side of the screen where his voice is coming from:-)

In the first place, dialogue should be MONO in the CENTER in 95% of scenes.

SFX and music should be stereo.

Regardless, just “re-pan” your problem channels of audio, or, as was suggested swap the audio outputs on the DVD player.

BTW, I thought the “tell Peter to stand on the other side…” solution was hysterical!

I don’t buy that. Narration should be mono, but I think if you want to go to the trouble it makes the audio a lot more realistic if you pan a little bit but not completely.

You are welcome to DO that, but virtually all present-day mixes (TV, Films, DVDs) have all dialogue dead-center mono and fed to the center “dialogue channel” in the 5.1 mix.
