Ironically, i had the same problem as you today and I wanted to share my fix. I noticed in the timeline, above the part where the audio dropped, there was a light blue line in the render indicator bar on the audio part of the small thin line (the part that usually turns red when you have to render something). I had moved a title that was created in Motion from there, right before the audio dropped. My work around was to split the Video track underneath the blue line, trim the clip beyond the render line (both forwards and backwards). I then dragged the clip back together, deleted the split, and sure enough the audio played. Somehow Final Cut was holding on to a render file that was no longer there. Hope this helps.
