audio meters in fcp
Posted by Tvmaninc on November 13, 2007 at 2:58 pm‘ve been working on Discreet Logic’s Smoke for 8 years and am now using FCP more and more. One difference I can’t figure out is the audio metering. On other higher end systems you have markings for -10 db which is how most audio designers send there audio.
On FCP you have -12 db. Is there anyway to change the meters or customize them?
Also we normally put tone of -20 db on tape. FCP defaults to -12db. Why?
Thanks.

November 13, 2007 at 3:21 pmThere’s not a way to change these meters… you can setup bars at any level… they don’t have to be -12 they can be whatever you set them to be.

Currently when we lay back to dig beta we’re having to adjust the audio levels on the deck. Would love to be able to do it from FCP.
I guess I can run -10db tone and put a sharpie mark on my monitor!

This lets you adjust the master gain of the output.

November 13, 2007 at 3:36 pmYes, but no markings for -10db which is required when mastering to dig beta.

Cut it out, you’re killing me.

November 13, 2007 at 8:52 pmEverything we do, or get from sound mixes (2.0 or 5.1) that we master to Digi-Beta is always -20db for tone at the bars. That seems to be industry standard her in Los Angeles.

November 13, 2007 at 8:56 pmI must not be explaining myself correctly, I just want to see a visual -10db on the FCP meter and not have to monitor it by going back to the tape room and adjusting levels on the deck.

November 19, 2007 at 12:57 pmThat is not possible. You are explaining yourself perfectly. There’s no way to do exactly what you’d like to do.. have to do it using master output and/or adjusting the audio input levels on the deck.
