Audio mapping from CS3 to CS4
I’m working on a film with about 24 hours of footage, that we recorded audio for separately. My audio guy recorded each wav file as two separate channels attached to two different lapel mics (i.e. Wav file A’s left channel is Mic 1, and it’s right channel is Mic 2.) He then synced all the footage, and sent it to me as a Premiere project file. He mapped the channels out so on the timeline audio track 1 plays the left channel of the file, and audio track 2 plays the right.
The problem is (perhaps) that he did this in CS3, and I’m editing in CS4. So now, when I open the project file, all the audio is synced, but for some reason, all the clips on the timeline are mapped to the left channel. They also are all showing up as mono tracks on the timeline, but are stereo tracks in the project file.
If I select and play any of the clips from the project file window, both mics can be heard, and when I break them to mono tracks, the right channel plays my missing microphone.
The issue is the only way I see how to fix it is to break apart each of the 800 or so wav files and re-sync the right channel only, which I don’t need to tell you, seems to be an amazing waste of time. The other issue is that for some reason, the original files seem to sometimes have a half of a frame of empty space that makes dragging and dropping the other half of the audio not possible, as they don’t always line up.
So is my fate resigned to re-syncing all the audio myself? Or is there hopefully some other option I just don’t know about. Please help!
