  • Audio losing sync during playback. Video 29.97 Audio 30 fps?

Hey all, I just got back from a shoot and I think my audio guy recorded at 30 fps instead of 29.97. After about 10 minutes of playback the audio starts to lose sync. It’s great out the gate, but the longer is plays the more it loses sync. Does anyone know how I can correct this? I have four different mics and each of them has the same issue.

FYI: We ran one mixed track back to the primary camera as a safety and that audio plays perfectly, but I’d like to use the solo tracks for each lavalier to get the best quality.

    Thanks.

In theory, you could interpret one of your video clips to 30 fps and check to see if that takes care of the problem…also in theory you could interpret all your video to 30fps and cut the show, and just make the adjustment on the back end if you have a broadcast job…

Some audio recorders will write video timecode to an audio file, but interpreting the audio clip by video framerate probably isn’t possible…

The error is so small, that you should probably make the adjustment in Audition or a digital audio application. The speed of a 30 fps equivalent clip reduced to 29.97 fps ends up being 99.9% speed…a pretty subtle adjustment.

    Hi.
I have a similar issue as well and I didn’t quite “get” how you said to sync. I figured I’d start my quest for answers here before beginning another thread.
I’m a musician. Well, a drummer… and I like to make videos as well. (It’s a career survival technique.)
History: A few years ago I inherited an old hot rod PC with the CS4 suite on it and I began to learn Premiere. Since I’d cut my teeth on a “consumer” NLE it didn’t take too long to make basic band videos for utoob. I’d later gone Mac with a loaded G5 that had FCP8 which is a little easier but the rendering after every fart and burp makes it a bit of a PITA, but I digress.
Now I’m on a MacProIntelSnowLeopard and trying out CS6 and so far it’s a little bit different but not intimidating.
Here’s my problem after such a verbose intro:
First, the “goal” is to create a video using a “flip” cam/sd card and a dvd palmcorder for angles and eventually play four different “roles” at once using greenscreen.
That said, I shot like fifteen minutes of video of me playing drums and recorded the audio independently in my DAW -Sonar 7 in a dedicated W7 Pro 64 Quad Intel homebuild for quality since I have good drum mics.
Now the issue: I open Pr with default settings and load my first clip from the “flip” cam. It says to change the sequence setting for the clip so I do. Then I load my handbrake converted video clip from the palmcorder and it imports smoothly. I delete the cam audio clips and import my recorded audio and go thru the arduous task of nudging my clips to a certain merge point. Upon playback, I see that at the merge point the video and the audio sync but as the playback continues I notice that my drumsticks are passing the audio like the video is running “faster” than the audio. How is that possible?

Aiptek “flip” cam w/ SD media
Panasonic VDR-D105 w/ mini DVD media
Custom Intel Core2 Quad Windows 7 Professional 64-bit machine running Sonar 7 Producer Edition
MacPro1,1 “Quad” w/2X Intel dual core running Premiere Pro CS6 and Logic Pro 9 Studio

    If I had a do-over, I’d learn to read.
