  • audio line in/out or digital line in/out?

I’m a Junior editor and a senior editor told me that it’s better to connect my speakers to the digital in and output then line in and line out.
When I select digital in and output under System settings there is the following remark: ‘the selected device has no input controls’. This rang some alarm bells, though the sound did seem to be coming out of my speakers (which are plugged into the back of my computer in the audio jack).
The problem was that I couldn’t turn the sound up very loud, the volume controls on my keyboard weren’t responding. (whereas with the line-in and output I could turn up the volume to a much higher level).

Does anyone have any idea to what I’m doing wrong?

    Thanks!

    Ok . My opinion.
Is he right? Well the digital feeds may well be slightly better/ cleaner than the analogue ones. Will you hear the difference? I doubt it.
Digits ave no controls as they are a digital stream. You’d need to abe speakers that have a digital option for their input where there will be a volume control.
Sooner or later you need the audio to be analogue, as your ears are analogue.
    Dont worry about it
