    hi all,

i’ve got a 30 minute piece cut where the audio sounds fine, level look good…everything seems fine, yet when this piece is output to a DVD and played in a convention center, teh audio on the monitors or tv screens must be completely maxed out to hear the program….

i thought maybe Compressor was messing with my levels, but it’s not…

    any ideas?

What settings are you using in Compressor? Are you using AC3 audio (Dolby 2.0)? The settings in AC3 will affect the level of the audio comming off the DVD -12, 27, -31. -31 giving the louder output in AC3

i’ve used AC3 and the raw aif files….peaks are between -12 and -20

most of the stuff was recoreded at a studio by professionals (which i’m not) and i haven’t messed with those levels at all….

After your are happy with your audio levels in FCP (listen to your time-line playing into a tv), you need to set your AC3 encoder to -31 dBFS, this preserves the audio levels set in FCP.
