I’m having problems with audio levels on my Varicam. The audio input is always so high that I have to keep my channel levels almost all the way down just to keep normal levels in my audio. Is there a way to change the input levels so I can keep my channel levels in the middle and can have more play in my audio?

    Dan,

There is a three popsition slide switch just above the two XLR inputs on the back of the camcorder; these allow the proper input for mike or line levels.

It’s not the line/mic/+48v switch. I need something that controls the level of audio input into the camera. This is kind of hard to explain. Maybe an example is on a wireless mic there is an output level knob on the transmitter that controls the levels coming out of the mic. I’m looking for a similar function within the camera that allows me to bring down the intial audio levels so that I have more control over the levels on my channels.

There is a dipswitch inside the audio board that allows you to change the impedance for each input. This will have a great impact on the range. Not terribly difficult to do, but easy for a tech.

Be easier just to throw a pad on the mic cable. Any pro audio or probably even guitar center will have em.
