Audio levels on log and capture
I’ve been calibrating the audio on our new system and have run into something that has me stumped.
First the setup. The system is a G5, Dual 2.5, 3.5gb ram, OS 10.3.9, Kona LS, 1TB SATA, FCP 5.
My audio is fed from a mackie mixer line level to the Kona. The Kona output goes to a pair of Dorrough loudness meters, to a TC Electronics Finalizer, to a second set of Dorrough meters, to the Beta SP deck.
Levels and metering have been calibrated to a -20db nominal scale.
Now the dilemma…
When I go into log and capture and capture a clip, the levels will register properly on FCPs metering but the levels on my Dorroughs, and the sound to my audio monitors are pegged. No distortion, but it’s REALLY LOUD. Once the clip is captured and I’m out of log and capture, playback is fine. FCP plays back at the same level it recorded, distortion free, and the Dorroughs match FCP. Somehow during log and capture, the output audio level from FCP is being boosted. Any thoughts?Jim Eckes
