  • audio issue – partially drops out from final renders when exporting to tape or DVD.

When I mix the audiotrack for a premiere project down to a single wav file, it sounds correct in the premiere environment. Then I export it to DV tape on a Canon GL2, or to a DVD using Ulead DVD Workshop. When I play back the finished clip on the camera, through a television, the sound fades in and out, or generally behaves unpredictably: Sometimes a voiceover is gone, sometimes it goes quiet. Since the source wav file is intact, the problem seems to be hidden somewhere in the settings of the software. If an audio file would break down, shouldn’t it all go? How could a voiceover suddenly dissapear with the rest of the track intact? Where should I begin to look?

    Thanks,
    Peter

It’s possible you have the two tracks out of phase with each other. This can create the effect you are hearing. It’s selective in the same way that waves on water interact with each other. A trough and its opposite – a peak can cancel each other out, sometimes completely.

It is more likely this problem is a hardware or cable issue. I’ve also seen this happen on TV sets where the audio is correct going in but there is a phase error in the TV’s wiring/audio processing.

So if I want to look up more about this issue, do I search “out of phase audio…” not sure where to dig up more.
    THanks for the help.
