I have been using a Centrance MicPort Pro in conjunction with a mic to record directly into Vegas for some time.

I recently installed a Logitech WebCam and it seems the software changed my audio settings around. I suspect this may be an issue at the OS level, but I thought I’d post here and see if anyone has a solution(oh, I’m on XP SP2 Pro). Basically Vegas no longer recognizes the MicPort Pro as an input. In fact, I can no longer record in any program. I have had to use another computer to record but it is much more cumbersome so I would like to get this fixed if possible without any major reinstallation.

I remember that there is a way to reset the settings to default, something like Ctrl+Alt+Esc when you start up Vegas, but I doubt this will do anything.

I uninstalled the Logitech software. I’ve gone to Device Manager and everything says it is fine. But to be thorough, I uninstalled the device and restarted, then reinserted it(it is USB plug-n-play).

If it is a registry thing, I may have to restore my system. Any ideas?

Periodically Vegas decides to default to Microsoft Sound Mapper (instead of my M-Audio sound card) on me so I have to tell it otherwise.
Go Options – Prefs – Audio Device and see if your MicPort Pro shows up in the Audio device type list.
If it does, change it and you should be OK.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I tried this too. It used to show up before, but now it is no longer recognized at all. It doesn’t show up as an option anymore.

I think it is probably a wacky Windows glitch that happened due to poor programming on the part of Logitech. It’s so easy to screw things up and extremely difficult when you don’t understand doing Registry fixes, how to get things back to normal. When things slow down, I’ll probably just try a System Restore, or use my disc image backup to flash back to my clean slate installation.

It’s just one of those things that takes an afternoon.

    Thanks

Have you selected the correct option in the Windows Recording Control (Sounds & Audio Devices in the Control Panel)? If not, your device will not be used. Even Sound Forge requires the correct settings in this control. I have mine set on “What You Hear” in Win XP Pro. It’s been awhile, but I think Vista has a similar facility.
