Just upgraded to Premiere CS5. When importing clips, I want to import audio as mono. In the field I record Nat sound on channel 1 – SOTs on channel 2. I need to separate these so when I edit i can leave the Nat Sound off of the timeline. I do the required steps in “Map source audio channels on import” BUT when i load the clip into my Source Monitor to edit, the clip only has 1 channel of audio, and it is a stereo clip. I had no trouble with this in CS4. Is this a known bug and can somebody inform me how to fix it. And i did look at all the forums before i posted….also went through 159 posts on the Adobe site before i came to the Cow.
    Thanks
    Richard

Select the clip in the bin, then click Clip>Audio>Breakout to Mono
then when you drag it to a sequence it takes up two mono tracks instead of one stereo track.
Other edit systems do this by default – that took some getting used to after learning NLE on Media 100.

Thanks Mike I appreciate your help. I read exactly what you just told me to do and that works fine. I was just hoping I could save a step and not have to do that. Do you think this is some kind of bug that the Capture tool has? Should I notify Adobe about it?

The answer to that question is almost always ‘yes’.
