I have footage captured on a Canon XL1. When I bring it in to FCP4.1.1, the audio rate is slightly diff than the 48khz (i.e. 48003hz or 48002hz). The clips are peaking without doing a thing in certain spots. I’ve used both a Sony DSR0-20 and the XL1 and the same thing occurs. I’ve been told that the problem has been known to exist with Canon camcorders. One suggestion was to import using the Firewire Basic mode. I trashed my prefs and used that mode to no avail.

In case it matters, I’ve been capturing as ‘Capture Now’ instead of logging clips. However, I have run tests by logging clips. No luck there.

I have already created subclips for some of the clips. I don’t want to have to go back and recapture clips unless there is no other way. The problem is that even when I recapture, the same problem exists. I’m assuming that if I try to export these clips, because the original clips were bad, I’ll never get a good clip after exporting.

    Any solutions?

    Thanks,

    PK

[PK] “I’ve been told that the problem has been known to exist with Canon camcorders.”

    Oh yes.

A possible solution is to play the tape(s) on the ORIGINAL camcorder and make a FireWire copy to a new DV tape in another deck or camcorder, then capture only from the COPY.

This is a standard “iffy tape” workaround and there is no loss in quality on the copy.
