Audio hiss, a malfunction of my t2i or of my rode mic?
Hey guys.
I’m using a Rode VideoMic on my rebel t2i and now get a hiss on my audio.
Is this a malfunction of my DSLR or my mic?
I’ve been told if it is a malfunction of the DSLR, then the t2i settings don’t offer a solution. Advice?

The T2i has very poor audio recording due to its preamp that creates lots of hiss – try dual audio recording by recording your sound onto a seperate higher quality audio recorder and then syncing in post

It’s probably both, to be honest. The VideoMic is really noisy, especially at higher gain levels, and so is the t2i’s preamp. It’s a bad combination of equipment.

if you didn’t want to go the 2 sound route, you could try a preamp that plugs directly into the DSLR. not perfect, but better than nothing.
