    Hello folks,

I need to do some voice over work for my documentary. I own the mic, equiped with XLR output and the G5 w/ Final Cut Pro and Avid.

I’m looking for some type of card/box/interface that will get me from XLR audio into my computer. I’m not looking for some huge I/O video device, as I’m only using DV from camera input. I just need XLR to FCP input.

Do small mixers or boxes exist with Firewire or USB connectivity, or XLR audio to USB/Firewire?

    Any recommendations?

    Thank you.

We use a professional USB device called PUC from Yellowtec. It’s not cheap but provides a broadcast grade solution with virtually no latency and provides options for several wiring looms including XLR for analogue and digital sources.

    Info here.

Digidesign MBox 2 is a great choice. It offers 2 audio inputs which can be either XLR or 1/4″ phono. You can connect microphones or instruments. You connect the Mbox with USB to your computer. It also comes with Protools LE software which is a full edit and mix workstation. If you can afford it, later you can add DV Toolkit which features a broadband noise reduction tool which is great for cleaning up location sound and a tool for dialog replacement. You can check out info and compatability on Digidesign’s web site.
