  • Audio going crazy! Loud popping crackling

I’ve just imported a project from FCP 5 to FCP 7. Everything was going fine until…

A very loud crackling and popping sound appeared during playback and scrubbing. It sounds like its going to make the speakers explode! The audio then cuts out and the volume can’t be altered. In fact regardless of the volume set, the crackling and popping is full volume!

Is anyone able to tell me why this is happening? A reboot ‘fixes’ the audio so that I can at least use other programmes.

    Thanks in advance.

Do you have a I/O card or device installed, such as Matrox, AJA, or Decklink?

Or are you using a USB connected audio board?

I have a system, it has stuff in it, and stuff hooked to it. I have a camera, it can record stuff. I read the manuals, and know how to use this stuff and lots of other stuff too.
    You should be suitably impressed…

    Hi guys,

The only device installed is my external Lacie Drive.

There is no external audio hardware.

It’s scary the hell out of me when I am happily editing away, it suddenly blasts out. It’s a really painful noise.

    Wow thanks for the feedback.

So that’s what I get for upgrading from 5 to 7? A whole bunch of work?!

    Blimey.

    Thanks again

Thanks Ben. I haven’t had time to look at the problem since.

    Cheers
