Hi all, I’m new here so please be gentle and apologies if this is the wrong spot for a request like this. I hoped to get this audio – which is stitched together using two clips- so it sounded coherent and part of one sentence, rather than the Frankenstein’s monster it currently is. I’m shooting my first short doc, and learning everything as I go with zero budget, but beyond removing the background noise (which you’ll hear I’ve done in the second version, in case that’s a better starting point) and altering her pitch a bit I’m struggling to get these sounding more coherent. I’m also on a bit of a time deadline, hence resorting to outside help rather than refining my skills (which I plan to do in the longer term) and working it out myself! I’m editing on Premiere Pro. Does anyone have any specific recommendations? Ambient noise is fine, as the clip is following the character as she’s out doing things etc. Any help/specific suggestions much appreciated! Many thanks

    Hi,

It’s a hard one. Frankly, explaining it here is harder than doing it. You can try the Essential Sound panel and de-hum, reduce rumble, and reduce noise. You can also try noise reduction effects from Audio Effects and play with harmonics. You can also reduce or increase some parts of the audio manually. You can check some video tutorials on the web to get started. Maybe give it a go for Adobe Podcast AI.

Probably not what you want to hear, but I edit dialog in Izotope RX10 (Advanced) – in addition to a repair assistant, there are many tools for cleaning up audio – I rather like their “Dialog Isolate” module that has worked wonders.

I believe they have a 7 day free trial, so if you are not getting the results you want, take a look there.

    Hey John,

I echo Bill on Izotope RX 11 Advanced – got the package which comes at an eye-watering price, although often discounted around Black Friday etc. Used it recently to take a music track apart, where the vocal got drowned out. To show how the track could be improved by lowering the music. Takes a bit to learn, but best in class. Think Rolls Royce v 1980’s Skoda – hence the price difference.
(Has a 10 day free trial on website right now – check for “limitations” in trial before using)

Listening to your audio clip, I suggest that you do following on the second version that you have shared:

Insert a cut where the second part with reverb on starts. Add de-reverb and tweak to a point where the “room” of the two clips as close as possible match one another.

Then add suitable background noise on another track across the whole part of that edit, either from wild-track recording, or audio library. Or hust “paint” with Muzak.

This should take you less than 5 minutes to fix.

Keep in mind that it is most likely that only you’ll know the problem!

But that the viewer might never pick up the issue.

In which case you could spend hours on perfecting something, that is only a cost in time taking you away from making the video very “pretty” in other ways.

Izotope have de-reverb included in their entry-level Elements plug-in package – again, wait for the sale when and if that is.

    Hope that this helps?

EDIT: Should have added that PPro has got a Dereverb effect included.

Ran into room echo issues and tried every option available none worked.

Used the demo R11 Advance De-Reverb as well.

    No dice.

Lesson learned on shooting live events.
