  • Audio files from zoom now not working

Posted by Tim Vanbrackle on November 7, 2011 at 3:03 pm

i am desperate. I have a huge project that i have been working on for 6 months. I am shooting with a dslr camera and importing audio from a zoom recorder. The project has worked perfectly the entire time

Yesterday the files were conforming everytime i opened the project. Now only the audio files that were imported from the zoom will not work (they have diagonal lines through them)

I am using mac os 10.6.8 The project was saved on an external hard drive (as were the scratch disc)

Adobe is telling me that there may be no way to get the audio files back (I have edited and changed the files so much, it will be a month of trying to rematch the files) (they are looking into it and will call me back either today or tomorrow. (i am thoroughly disgusted and can not be the only one this has happened to). To top it off i seem to be having problems with my time machine, so i’m working with apple now also.

I just want the audio files to work. Please Please Please help. I am desperate right now!

It’s not clear what you’ve tried and what isn’t working.

Do your audio files play fine outside of Premiere Pro?

If so, can you not just relink the media within Premiere Pro?

If not, can you re-import the audio files into Premiere Pro and redo just the work on your audio clips?

Also, what version of Premiere Pro? Have you installed the latest updates?

Thanks for responding Todd. The files play fine outside premiere. It’s premiere cs5. It’s totally up to date. There is no option to delink them, the files are there, they just don’t play. I’ve worked and cut the video up for the past 6 months and to re import them and do the work all over again will take a few weeks. Plus now I’m just paranoid that it will happen again. I’m stuck. The only thing I’ve done is turned it off and on and disconnected and reconnected the drives and called adobe. They still haven’t called me back

Have you tried relinking the media using the Replace Footage command? You can use that to replace an item with itself, so to speak. This can force a relinking of the media. Of course, I don’t know that the media being relinked is the core of your problem, but it’s a useful troubleshooting step.

You say that you’ve been working on this for 6 months. So you must have backups. What happens when you load one of your recent backup projects?

Again thanks for your help Todd Replacing footage with itself is clever. The problem is that I did not change the file names when I downloaded them from the zoom- they are still called mono wav 1 ,2,3 etc. My sound guy did nickname them in premiere so it would still be a long process
Funny you should ask about the back ups. I have time machine and that was unable to fulfill a backup last night. After spending four hours today at apple we found it was due to the drive being filled up. There were only 2 backups in there. Yesterday and today
I was so proud of my system before today. I have 8 gigs of memory, 27 inch iMac, external drive for the video files, and a dedicated external drive for time machine
I can’t help but think the only 2 issues with that computer happened in the same day.
It’s such a specific problem- only the zoom files-wav files- i can’t believe that this isn’t an easy fix I can’t be the o ly person in history to come across this. I do appreciate your thinking of the replace footage option. It’s going to be that kind of thinking to figure this one out. Here’s hoping for a positive call from adobe. though i thought they would have called today. Thanks again!- (wow this is long sorry)
