I have a question, which might be quite a newbie thing to ask, but I just want to make sure i’m doing the right thing.

we have finished a film in HD.
we converted the whole film from the final DPX sequence to an Apple Pro Res file. this file does not have the final sound yet.

The final stereo mix for the film was delivered by the mixing studio as two .wav files. one for the left channel, one for the right channel.

I have now imported these files (1 video track and two audiotracks) in FCP and want to render this out as a digital master file (APPLE PRO RES with stereo mix for TV). I want to use this file as the master from which we can make copies for DVD, H264, etc.

    my question:
how should i export the two audio files? should i make them into a stereo audio pair or should i just leave them mono? so the L and R track are not linked with each other? or doesn’t this matter?

i have checked the manual and did a search on the internet. though i realise the answer is probably quite straightforward i just cant find what im looking for. so apologies if this is a rather redundant question but just want to avoid rendering out the wrong master file.

If the two imported tracks are each mono, then set the pan for the left track to -1 and pan the right track to +1. Next select both audio tracks and choose Modify->Stereo Pair. That will then keep them as a stereo pair in your sequence. In terms of rendering, whatever gets sent to the left and right channels is what will make up the exported stereo render. Imagine if you had 6 audio tracks, the final output would be a stereo mix of these,
