I’m trying to create an effect on dialogue audio often seen in movies when a desperate shout repeats and echoes.

For instance, someone is about to fall off a cliff or get hurt and another character shouts, “No!” and the audio repeats and echoes.

I’ve tried cutting in the audio at a slower pace with fit to fill and using the echo and reverb effects, but my results have been pretty flat so far.

Does anyone know how to recreate this effect? Should I possibly be trying this in soundtrack?

    Thanks for any help.

    Absolutely.

If you’ve never opened it up, learning how to use STP’s effects is going to take you a few days.

I’m a video guy with decades of analog audio experience using tape. I hate Soundtrack Pro because everything is so weirdly different form FCP: the interface paradigm and all terminology is from the digital audio world.

Play with the Delay effects. That will give you the echo. Reverb is the sound you hear in a large hall (or your shower).
