  • Audio EDL for online?

    Posted by Thomas on August 22, 2006 at 6:23 pm

    Hi, I have a question, wondered if you could help me;

    The editing of the project was done on Avid Xpress Pro, and when it was brought for the online (on Avid DS), the editor had done a mixdown of the sound. Now the director wants to make a second version without the music, so what should he do, bring an audio EDL along with the project sound files?

    Or would it be simpler to do a second mixdown without music and export this?

    Can someone explain to me exactly how to do this (whichever way is the best), starting from Avid Xpress Pro?

    Thanks, really appreciated!

    Good day Thomas,

    First off let me say that I have never had to do a mixdown of audio in 13 years of working on AVID, not even when I was using optical drives, and I’ve used video mixdown maybe a handful of times and that was in the final online. That being said, if this project was meant to go to online, the editor should have a clean sequence before he/she did the mixdown. In other words, i would have duplicated the sequence and used the duplicate sequence for the mixdown and labeled it as such, with the audio tracks split.

    So to answer the second question (remember no mixdown) I would output an audio only edl and bring that into the ds to do the conform or and I’m not sure of this with the DS, but export the audio as an OMF sequence for the DS editor to bring in. This is of course if the DS will allow it to be brought in. If not just reconform the audio edl.

    As a side bar, you should never deliver the online with mixdown tracks, because just like your situation someone want to make changes.

    btveditor, out

    Ok that’s what I’ll do.

    Can you or someone explain to me quickly how to export the audio edl and the audio as omf?
