Audio Dropouts with LHe import into Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0
I am capturing interviews shot on DVCPro into a project in Premiere. I have the Xena LHe and I am capturing analog stereo audio at 48000 hz 32 bit floating point. Some random clips in premiere have just completely dropped the audio, but if I play the clip in quicktime the audio is fine. I assume something is happening with the way Premiere is generating audio previews. My audio hardware is set to Xena within the premiere project. Anyone have any ideas?

You say ‘some random clips…have dropped audio’. Does this mean some clips are working and others are not? What happens if you play those clips out in Machina? Also what file format are you capturing?
One common audio troublshooting step is to reinstall Quicktime using the Quicktime+Itunes package downloadable from Apple. For some reason the ‘quicktime only’ install sometimes seems to install incorrectly and cause problems for some Xena users.

Thanks for your help. I reinstalled Quicktime+Itunes, but that was not the issus. I had both video and audio clips that when played the audio would disappear and the video would as well. I am working with MOV’s.
I also tried playing the clips in Machina, this may be a seperate glitch but the audio played on the clip but the video would only appear when scrubbing.
What I ended up doing was deleting all of my Premiere Project and associated files. I then started a new project with the same settings, imported the files, and the clips were all correct. Interesting stuff. Anyway if you have any thoughts on the Machina glitch let me know. Thanks for your help.

It sounds like what you are seeing in Machina is not a glitch, but actually the expected behavior in Machina. The default display option for playback in Machina is for video only to be displayed during scrubbing. You can change this in the Play settings by changing the ‘display to desktop’
setting to ‘Always’.AJA Xena Support

Sounds good. Thank you for the info. Side question, if you have a minute. Are there advantages of capturing with Machina over capturing through Premiere? It seems like there is a little more functionality in Premiere.

This way Xena users can capture and output without Premiere Pro. Some users doing animation or compositing work may not be doing any work in Premiere. This way they dont have to own a license of Premiere Pro in order to use the Xena capture and playback functionality.
