I have several .wmv movies I have been asked to shorten, make them all 4:3 (a few are 16:9), and then convert to both QT and .flv for viewing on computer screens off a thumb drive.
I am converting the .wmv files to .mov within QT Pro with Flip4Mac using the 8bit uncompressed codec. After dropping into FCP and rendering the file, the .mov file plays back fine except that the audio track becomes progressively further out of sync. Five minutes into the movie and the thing is many seconds out. However, when I stop the play and then start again, its back in sync for a few seconds before losing it again.
I thought it might have something to do with the OWC mini-RAID I’m using so I switched out from 10bit to 8bit when I converted the files from .wmv to .mov. No effect . . . equally out of sync. It doesn’t lose frames on playback, the audio just drifts further and further out of sync. Any ideas how I can correct this issue?
    Oh, I’m on a G5 2.0 with 4GB RAM running FCP 6.0
    Thanks,
    David

you might want to look at item properties on the original clip, and then item properties for your sequence, and make sure the sample rate is the same.

Thanks for your help, Steven. After some amount of gnashing of teeth and yanking of hair, I got to the bottom of the problem. And it’s probably related to what you suggested.
I couldn’t really check if it was re-exporting the wmv files at 2997 and
dropping into an appropriately tweaked sequence was it. Or, if it was
putting the media on my array instead of accidentally playing it from an
internal drive. Or, if it was the last thing that I changed (and it very
well may have been this) changing the video play back from Kona 525i 23.98
8bit to Kona 525i 29.97 bit. But, now after almost a full day of working on
this, the sequences play in FCP. Hallelujah!
Let’s hope it’s smooth sailing from here.
