  • Audio doesn’t play in timeline after XML import

Posted by Matt Devino on March 19, 2013 at 12:03 am

    Hi,
I’m having an issue where every time I import a Final Cut 7 XML of a sequence the audio doesn’t play in the new sequence created in Premiere. The video and audio both exist in the sequence in Premiere, and I can see the audio waveforms in the tracks in Premier, and the video will playback but the audio won’t. I can match frame the audio and lay it back into the sequence and then it works correctly but this is a big waste of time. Any ideas? Thanks.

I recently had the same problem. There is a bug in Premiere that messes up audio levels from XMLs. It’s apparently a known issue and an internet search will yield some work arounds.

The easiest solution for me was to set audio level keyframes for each audio clip in FCP before exporting. It was tedious, but after I set at least one keyframe in each clip, the audio came into Premiere correctly.

    Hope this helps.

As Gerald said, it’s not that it’s messed up. It’s just the volume translates in at -999db. Sux big time, I know. (I’m going through the exact same problem now…) If you assign keyframes with FCP to the audio, then it should be fine. Otherwise, simply adjust your audio to the correct volume levels in Pr. Or, if you have tons of b-roll, fx and v/o audio at all various levels throughout, contemplate pulling your hair out and screaming very loudly. It doesn’t help, but it gives you an outlet LOL
