Audio distortion
I recently shot using the HVX 720P @23.98 onto P2 cards. About a week later I went to edit the show and found out that the audio is all distorted and out of synch.
The audio is about 30 seconds late on the clips. Normally I could fix that but it is distorted as well. I sounds like it has an echo in the sound and it is going in and out of phase. Also, there is a constant ticking in the audio and it is extremely hot, high levels. The picture seems fine.
The sound comes from two sources. Channel 1 was from a wireless mic and channel 2 was an on camera boom (Sennheiser). Both channels have the distortion and are both out of synch. The files were copied from the P2 cards into FCP v6.0.1 using the “log and transfer” feature to a LaCie 500GB external FW800 drive.
We monitored the audio on the shoot, the levels were fine and I could hear both mics in the headphones free of distortion from each ear respectively.
I know there is no way to save the shoot but I would like to know if anyone has experienced this, what was the cause and of course if it can be averted the next time.
Thanks
David
