audio delay on HDMI output
hey all
i called AJA about this and they were stumped. no one has called them with a setup like this, so i’m seeing if anyone out there has something similar.
we have a viewing theater with a Kona LHi. the HD-SDI output goes to a 24″ FSI monitor. the analog XLR outputs go to a small Mackie mixer for headphones and KRK near field monitors. the HDMI output goes to a 7.1 Denon receiver which runs the 7.1 theater. the HDMI out on the receiver then goes to the projector.
to get the FSI monitor and projector to match the canvas window, i had to apply a 6 frame offset. but the audio is out of sync. the XLR outputs are dead on to the edit. the HDMI output seems to be 5-10 frames behind. and the speakers on the FSI monitor are even further behind than the HDMI output.
AJA told me that all outputs on the LHi will output audio in sync. they cannot be adjusted and are the same across the board. they suspect that the FSI’s SDI audio disembedder (is that a word?) has a delay. that’s fine and doesnt really matter. as for HDMI and the receiver, they suspect that the receiver is introducing a delay, possibly because of processing. but the video on the projector is in sync with the FSI monitor, so the video is not being delayed.
in the Denon menu, there’s an option for “Lip Sync” in the HDMI menu, but turning it off and on does nothing. Blu-Rays from a PS3 seem fine running through the receiver. no lip sync issues.
anyone have any thoughts? we went with the LHi because the HDMI output can carry multiple audio tracks from Final Cut and Logic straight through to a receiver. in presales, AJA told us that this configuration would work for surround monitoring (thus the LHi and not a Kona 3 with various AES to Analog converters). so i’m wondering if its the Denon receiver, or if there’s some buried adjustment for HDMI
thanks
