Audio Decibel level difference
Ok, This is going to be long for the sake of clarity. I regularly shoot two-camera projects at the local federal courthouse. I use my “A” camera as my main audio camera. My “B” camera is strictly for shooting wide shots. I capture two separate mics on “A” camera, shotgun mic on channel 2 and the courtroom system audio on channel 1.
Once I bring the footage into FCPX, I create multi clips, sometimes by using the audio, sometimes by setting markers. I usually cut in the magnetic timeline( the first stage of “Timeline” in fcpx) Once the cutting is locked, then I open up the multi clip in the Angle Editor and then open “A” camera up into its own timeline. This allows me to mix the audio as two discreet channels. When I’m happy with my mix, I exit out of “A” camera’s Timeline, then exit out of the Angle Editor. I’m now back in the Magnetic Timeline. My question is, has anyone else noticed that the audio is three decibels quieter in the magnetic timeline than it is in the timeline for “A” camera?
Is this a bug in fcpx or am I doing something wrong? This little “gotcha” has me pulling my hair out and is delaying these projects being complete. Any help or advice is much appreciated.
