Audio Clipping when levels look good
I shot a Stevie Ray Tribute band, and I connected the zoom H4n, to the sound board. I made sure to check the levels, and listen with the headphones. I left the device at shot the show. Afterwords when I listen to the audio it sounded like it was clipping constantly, but I checked the levels and they seems good. I have adobe audition and I’m not sure what tools to use to fix this. here is a link to the audio, any help would be much appreciated it!

Just because the levels at YOUR gadget were OK doesn’t mean that they weren’t “pre-clipped” up-stream somewhere at a previous link in the audio chain. It is not uncommon to set levels during rehearsal only to discover that the actual live performance significantly exceeds what you though were safe levels.

Richard’s spot on and welcome to Audio Rule 1.02, never leave the audio unattended. When? NEVER?
Audio Rule 1.01, BTW is, When do you listen? Always. Really? Yes, ALWAYS!
The person running the mix serves the band, he’s not YOUR mixer. Levels will most likely change and most likely increase if it’s a live music mix.
Sorry you had to learn the hard way, but you’ll never make that mistake again.

How was the recorder connected to the house mixer XLR’s or the 6.5mm sockets?
What the connection Aux or Matrix or Main Output (XLR) or RCA?
What was your input level set at? -
if you leave it, make sure that you have an inline compressor like ratio 3:1 or a smart limiter. You can always uncompress, you can’t recover clipping.

Depending on the amount of clipping you can de-clip with iZotopeRX.
