audio: changing stereo program to mono
Posted by Robert Billings on March 20, 2006 at 10:23 pmI have a program that is presently stereo but I want it to be mono.
I used “combine” from the “channels” menu on the audio track, thinking that would do it.
The graphic representation on the timeline suggests mono, but the speakers are playing back stereo.
Thanking you in advance,
Robert

That should do it. What is indicating that you are getting stereo out?

March 21, 2006 at 2:53 amAfter “combining” the tracks, I hear some of the audio only on the left speaker and some only on the right speaker. It is corresponding directly to the pan envelope that I set up before “combining” the stereo tracks. I have not printed to tape yet.

March 21, 2006 at 4:09 amWhat effect are you wanting to achieve with the pan envelope? If you want it to behave more like the balance control on an amplifier, right-click the pan control in the track header and choose Constant Power.

March 21, 2006 at 4:40 amWhat I was trying to do was to use the left channel when it was cleanest (it was a PA output) and the right channel when it was cleanest (it was a live mic). I was either using one or the other, never both.
I have since restarted my project, made a duplicate audio track, made one track “left only” and the other track “right only”.
Seems to be a solution, though not a very straightforward one.
Thanks again,

Seems the most straightforward to me.
