Here’s the problem. Can Premiere do an audio video capture from a DV camera through firewire and split the audio into seperate files (1 file for left and the other for the right). Other progams that I’m more familiar with (such as Avid and Incte) are capible of doing this but so far in Premiere the only option I can see is if I want Audio and Video, Video, or just audio. Nothing about selecting audio channels 1,2,3, or 4 like I’m use to. The end result I keep getting is a video file and a single stereo audio file. I would like to have a video file and two mono audio files.

The reason I need this is that on my DV tape of a concert channel one was fed a clean feed directly form the board and channel two is the camera mic to get audience sound. I’d like to be able to control the volumes of each seperatly.

I have come up with work arounds on the timeline. But they are a big hastle.

Any advice would be welcome. Thanks

The easiest way would be to open (extratct) the audio into Auditon, Sound Forge or almost any audio editor and save the left and right ch. as seperate mono tracks, then import them back into Ppro. The whole deal would take less than 1 minute to do.

Doesn’t Premiere have a channel mixer in the audio FX section…I can’t remember.

In PPro, the fill left and fill right audio effects give access to the individual channels of a stereo pair.

By duplicating the audio on the timeline, you can access both channels and mix between them as required.

    No need for export etc.

In earlier versions of Premiere, the same functionality is available from the audio clip menu.

    Thanks guys!

The fill left and fill right effects are even better then the work around I came up with.

    That will work out.

    Peace
