  • Audio captured at 12 bit?

Posted by Jimi Lund on April 15, 2008 at 5:51 pm

I have tried to capture some DV Pal footage and when I did, I got the message along the lines of “this audio is out of synch because it’s captured at the wrong rate”.

I assumed that the camera which recorded the footage was probably then recording at 44.1khz sample rate (rather than 48) & at 16 bit. But the camera i’m capturing it from (a different camera) says it’s 12 bit.

So I have 2 questions: Does 12 bit sound right, has anyone heard of this before? If so, how do I change my capture settings to take in 12 bit? In the Audio/Video settings i’ve duplicated the DV Pal 48khz preset but the only audio formats I can choose are:

    48.000 khz 16-bit 2-channel
    44.100 khz 16-bit 2-channel
    32.000 khz 16-bit 2-channel

    …Nothing like a 12 bit setting.

    Can anyone help?

    Hey Jim,
I am having the “exact same issue”. And I’m wondering the exact same thing…. is there a 12 bit? and if there is, where is it located? and how do I change it in capture settings?
