I don’t know about a USB mic, but audio capturing is done with the Audio Mixer, not the Capture window.

I’ve always recorded onto a tape and just digitized in the capture window. So, now that you’ve told me about the Audio Mixer window to capture audio, I set it up and the audio is coming in only faintly. I can’t seem to get beyond this problem. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

I found the solution: I went into the Windows Sound & Audio Control Panel and hit the Audio tab then hit the Volume butter under Sound Recording to bring up the volume control slider. The slider was set to low, so I raised it. That worked.

Glad to hear you got it working. I use a Mic and a preamp to get the best audio I can, then I clean it up with Audition or Soundbooth.
