Audio busts when playing tracks in VEGAS Pro 17
Whenever I play audio in Vegas, I only hear a screeching, static noise. Pausing the track pauses the noise, but playing audio in other programs after opening Vegas gives me the same screech and I have to restart my computer to hear normal audio.
After opening Vegas, Youtube videos stop working and display ‘Audio renderer error. Please restart your computer.’I didn’t have this problem a month ago and I’ve tried reinstalling Vegas but it’s the same story every time I open it.
Switching to Microsoft Sound Mapper gives me the message: The playback device Microsoft Sound Mapper does not exist.
Windows Classic Wave Driver: The playback device Speaker/Headphone (Realtek High does not exist.
ASIO4ALL v2 is the only option that actually produces audio, but the audio is the screech.I’d be beyond ecstatic if someone could help me out, thanks for reading!

What version of ASIO4ALL do you have ? There was an update back on April 22 2020 to fix a bug in Win 10 that sometimes created the noise you mentioned.

I downloaded the updated version, and after restarting I still heard the static but I was also able to hear the actual audio of the clip. Everything else is the same as described. Any other suggestions? -

The problem lies with Windows. During the course of using your computer, you have downloaded, browsed, installed and un-installed software, etc… Gaming stuff are also a big culprit when you run into computer problems. A lot of them will install their own sound drivers and other stuff. Eventually, some of the changes made by one or more of them will affect the way Windows will behave. As a side note, the computer that I use for editing is only used for that purpose because of all off that. I learned my lesson a while back after loosing a lot of material.
Now, without knowing what version of Windows you have, I would save the good stuff to an external drive (frequent back-ups will always be your best friend) MAKE SURE YOU SAVE ALL OF THE SOFTWARE AND SERIAL NUMBERS BEFORE you wipe your drive clean and start fresh. That usually does the trick.
If you will be doing any amount of serious editing, consider having at least a separate computer for web surfing and/or games.
