  • Audio automation does not track clip shifting

Posted by Dave on May 11, 2005 at 12:44 am

I edited a two camera shoot and used keyframes to automate the audio levels. I decided later to shift everything forward in time by selecting all of the clips and dragging them forward so that I could add some clips to the beginning. All of the clips and video transitions shifted OK but the keyframed audio automation stayed where it was and thus went out of alignmenet with the video. Any advice on how to shift clips and have keyframed audio automation shift in sync with it?

How did you shift all the tracks? Did you press M and Shift to move the clips to the right? If you don’t feel comfortable doing this, you can simply use nested sequences.

Yes I used (M) “track select tool” and shift to select all of the tracks. When I drag the selected tracks to the right, the keyframed audio automation does not shift with the selected tracks resulting in misalingment of the automation.

I am going to try doing that tonight and I will post back.

Can’t recreate the bug. What are your project settings? Can you post a detailed description of your workflow?

If your keyframes are track-based, and not clip-based, then they will stay with the track, and thus will be out of alignment when you move the clips.
Are far as I can recall, audio automation applies keyframes to the track.

Indeed, Audio Automation is track-based, so the keyframes aren’t linked to the clips at all. If you want to realign the keyframes with the audio, you might have to choose “Show track keyframes” for that track and then select and move the keyframes manually.

I had this problem as well when I wanted to import a another clip in between others that had audio volume keyframes. Put your CTI in between the clips and then select and right click the source clip you want to put there; click insert and it should shift everything over, including the keyframes – worked for me.

Thanks guys. I see now that I was using track keyframing which would not shift when shifting clips. I should have used clip volume keyframing. They move along nicely when shifting the clip.
