So I just wrapped a production in which we shot BM cinemaDNG, and external audio. The tascam produced 3-4 tracks that exist as separate files, not as one multi-track file.

My understanding from here is that Resolve can only auto sync a single file to a video clip.

So my question…is there anyway to just convert my 3 separate audio files into a single multitrack so that Resolve can sync it? Or is there another work flow that’s recommended?

    Thanks!

I’ve not found a way that Resolve can do this. I tend to use multichannel files from the external recorder, but if you are presented with separate files, you will need to create multichannel files first.

If you are familiar with the command line, you could try getting and using the command line utility “sox” that will take your separate WAV files and create a multichannel file which you can then sync in Resolve.

    e.g.: I have the following:

    Scene_12D-T002_Tr1.WAV
    Scene_12D-T002_Tr1_D.WAV
    Scene_12D-T002_Tr3.WAV
    Scene_12D-T002_TrL_R.WAV

    sox -M Scene_12D_T002_*.wav Scene_12D_T002.wav

This will create the required multichannel file, but note that you will lose your metadata.

Sound Devices have free software Wave Agent, that can create poly wavs from single wavs and single wavs from poly amongst other nice timecode things.

afaik, Wave Agent does not do RF64 (if you go over the 4 gig limit).
My Bwf Merge app does (get it from my site)
But, this was intended to merge files from different recorders with different start times, so perhaps a bit overpowered for the job.

(And if it’s only a few files, why bother and not do it by hand?)

thanks — yeah it’s 100’s of files, maybe 1000 video files, with 2-4 audio tracks to sync each. Hence need for automation haha

In that case, see if any of the options given work for you.
If not, contact me an I’ll make something custom.
