Audio and RED
Hi
Anyone used RED more recently than me?Last time I personally shot with a RED, the audio input was mic level only.
Have red addressed this yet and made it a “proper” audio IO device, or is it best to still shoot with sep sound?

Hello Peter,
I did a shoot several months ago with a RED (don’t know the build) and we got acceptable audio. I don’t recall whether we used mic or line because we had other fish to fry that morning.

The three models of the RED, One, Epic & Scarlet all take mic level only. The ONE uses TA3-F input connectors, the Epic & Scarlet use 2 x 3.5mm TRS-F chassis mount input connectors. Most people use the RED audio as a scratch track and record on an out board recorder as insurance.

The Arri Alexa is about the best camera for audio recording. 24/48 line level only and sounds wonderful. Of course it’s 3x the price of a RED.

The camera choice in a “cinematography” one. I cant affect that because of a minor audio difference. Sep sound sorts it all out.
