How do I get the volume of a self recorded piece of audio to match the volume of the audio of some video right next to it.

You could do this with a Volume Envelope. One easy way is to first right-click the audio event and select Switches | Normalize. Then hover your mouse at the top of the event until it says “Gain is 0.0dB” and click and drag it down to reduce the gain until it matches the other audio event.

My problem is that the pieces of voice I record in between the audio attached to video clips is much lower in volume. Even a maxed pull on the vol envelope does not bring it up to match the video’s volume.
Is there a way to adjust my mic setting prior to record to have higher wave form when done thus more volume, closer to matching the video clip volume.

Did you normalize the clip like I suggested? That should have made it extremely loud.

Yes, you can usually always make the mic hotter. How are you recording the audio?
