  ATTO DVRAID vs RAID5

  I’ve seen this discussed in older threads but am hoping from a more definitive answer since ATTO seems to want to side-step the true facts of their proprietary DVRAID configuration.

  I have 2 x G-RAID G-Speed eS Pro SAS drives that I plan to join together with an ATTO R680 for uncompressed HD, 2K, and 4K single-stream color grading.

  I’ve used DVRAID in the past but what I’d really like to know is what the parity is. Can I have 1 drive fail and still operate while a new disk is failing? Is it Sudo-RAID and if a drive fails, I’m hosed until I can restore from backup?

  Am I just as well off going with RAID5 at this point.

  System is a 2010 MacPro 12-Core Westmere; AJA Kona 3G with breakout box; 2 x G-Speed eS Pro 4x2TB SAS RAID enclosures; ATTO R680. Running OS X 10.9.5; Avid Media Composer | Symphony v7.0.4.
