I’m looking at RAID cards for an 8-bay RAID5. I’ve done a search here and read a fair few opinions. Many were six months old or more and I was wondering what had changed in that time — not just in terms of new products but also in people having had their respective products longer and formed broader opinions.

I didn’t dare mention HighPoint in the thread title, but I guess they and the CalDigit RAID card/Element should be included.

    Any opinions?

ATTO R380 is what we’ve been running for a few years now with our MaxxDigital arrays. No issues to report.

SAS controllers from either Atto or Areca are the way to go. Atto has first rate tech support. I’ve never had to use Areca tech support, so can’t compare. High Point is garbage. I’ve heard good things about the Cal Digit.

You might want to check and see if any of these cards are reviewed by either barefeets.com or xlr8yourmac.com

ATTO R380 is great, and great for shared storage enviornments.

The Areca 1680x is a great card, but is not great for shared storage enviornments. But for stand alone – it is a great card.

The Cal Digit is also a great stand alone card.

Highpoint – you are joking, right ?
