    Hi David

I recall seeing some posts from you about your Dell 2408WFPs.

Was wondering whether to choose either ‘Graphics’ or’ Video’ as the Color Setting Mode on my Dell 2408WFP prior to running the Spyder3Pro?

My intention is to watch footage on the Dell 2408WFP in Apple Color and FCP.

I understand that a Dell 2408WFP isn’t a recommended monitor for Apple Color or FCP, or for any Color Grading, but if it can give a pretty decent representation of the colors in Color and FCP I’ll be happy in this instance.

    Warm regards

    Peter

Don’t worry about replying – am going to return the Spyder3Pro.

    Thanks all the same!

Well, I’m going to respond anyway…

Why are you returning your Spyder?

If it’s any consolation, it took me about five hours to perfect my technique using the Spyder. However, once I did I found it very useful.

BTW, I have two Dell 2408WFPs.

    Hi David

I forgot to update this thread sorry about that – I decided to keep the Spyder after receiving a courtous email from their Customer Care department.

Thanks for your feedback – it’s certainly a handy little gadget!

Yep, it takes a while, and it’s not completely automatic, still requiring some thought and decision making. But, I find it invaluable. Glad it works for you too.

    David,

Please tell me how you were able to calibrate your 2408WFP with the Spyder3. I’ve recalibrated mine many times with many different setting but the end results are always unacceptable. The factory default looks better than the Spyder3 profile.

The Spyder3 calibrated monitor is too dark, too saturated and all detail is lost in the shadows.

Any advice you can give will be greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards,

    Jeff

I have no idea which version of FCP you’re using, and of course gamma settings have changed in FCP 7.

Also, calibrating is not easy. It takes many hours. Many trials are necessary to figure out the proper settings that produce accurate luminance, colors. and skin tones. You need to have a known reference monitor with video representing good skin tones to compare to. And, you need to be very systematic and take good notes. Eventually you will determine repeatable settings that emulate your broadcast monitor very closely.
