Don’t see the point in making a 4×3 captor in 2010.”
The ‘Four Thirds’ format that is the mainstay of the Olympus DSLR line. The two of the reasons they went this direction is size reduction of the camera and lenses, and the aspect ratio matches most common photo print paper.
There doesn’t seem to be a big rush for 16×9 in the still world.Scott Sheriff

I guess that still will remain 4×3 forever.
What I see is that this have opened a door to many interesting things to come.
With portable recorders available (NANO, Ki-Pro,..) the camera business is not anymore in the hands of the big manufacturers.
A time to buy a camera only if you need it badly.

April 22, 2010 at 12:35 amI’ve had the 7D for about 4 months now, and have fallen in love with filmmaking all over again. It has inspired me more than any tool in recent years. It has also secured jobs for me from the work that I have shot from it. I’m am an editor who is now being offered DP roles from producers going… oh wow… can you do that for me?
Is it the be all and end all? no of course not.
But damn I’m loving what I see on my screen. The real deal for me though, was not that it could shoot video, it was that it was a stills camera that can shoot fantastic video. I missed my photography days as the expense meant I let go of it. Now I’m enjoying both again for a camera that cost me $3000!
Are there technical issues. Sure. But hell before this I didn’t even own a camera worthy of any creative work. I hired cameras for given jobs if need be. All that ‘in between time’ was never used. Now its productive.
Bottom line is this is just a tool but one that is allowing me to push creative looks that I haven’t been able to do as easily or as cheaply before. One more roadblock to just getting out there and producing amazing stuff has just melted away. Awesome.
