June 21, 2011 at 4:11 pmI believe they lifted the media blackout on the beta because they think it’s pretty darn close to coming out. So hopefully it’s soon!

June 21, 2011 at 4:45 pmThe beta programme is closed to a number of select users worldwide, yes I admit theres alot of them on here, but this is a large community of experienced users so its not too surprising 🙂
IMO
The new version answers most, if not all, of the questions posed when V7 went live. The features we’re seeing today have been pined after by long term Linux users for years and I’m expecting new users to be just as excited as they are.
In particular – workflow with other finishing tools is brilliant, dropping new shots in and out is great, XML EDl AAF etc all work fine, rough cutting for onset is great coupled with the wide format support…

June 21, 2011 at 7:34 pmDo any of the other beta testers experience significant performance issues with denoise? I assumed its just because the beta is not performance tweaked, but as we get close to release…
I’ve got 2-GTX285 GPUs in a Cubix. One node of denoise drops playback to 12-14fps.Otherwise, my findings are as everyone else’s: awesome. Just imported a multi-track feature project with XML: ZERO DEFECTS. glory halleluiah. Saves a few days of prep and cleanup.

yeah I’ve got the same setup I’ll have to double check when I’m back in the suite tomorrow but I think I would have noticed drops that severe

June 22, 2011 at 1:26 amI’m personally very pleased the 8.0 beta is going well. Thank you for testing. The team here work day and night to make it as stable as we can.
NR is very GPU intensive and the code is fully optimized. NR will not operate on the OpenCL graphics systems at all. We expect as faster CUDA GPU’s from Nvidia become available this will be less noticeable but in the meantime, see if NR Radius setting 3 is enough to reduce the noise as this is a sweet spot for the Mac.
Linux uses with the new 4 or 8 GPUs can have multiple 2K NR nodes in real time. We don’t try to make the Mac slower and there is no difference in software, just the GPUs available for Linux have more CUDA cores.

June 22, 2011 at 1:52 amPeter, I rest my case about how great working with you guys is.
That made all the difference. With radius set to 2, which I had, payback is 12-14fps on a HD timeline. But changing the radius to 3 brought performance up to real-time 24p.
Woo Hoo
Cheers

I understand, that BM philosophy is to try to do everything in real time. In this case I think it’s a mistake to apply this philosophy to NR. It is known, that proper, high quality NR is EXTREMELY resource intensive. To do real time motion analysis over multiple frames is not a casual undertaking. Every other software manufacturer does NR as a background process. This way, system resources could be used for actual grading and even Open CL could be then used. Just render NR images to DPX and grade from that. Problem solved! -

June 22, 2011 at 6:17 amThe interactivity is what I really need in a client session.
They are fine if I can solve it right away with half speed playback.
Otherwise it turns into a VFX shot and need to be send to that department.
Both is ok, but having it in Resolve is fantastic.A slice of color…

June 22, 2011 at 6:35 amNot to advertise other products, as I was accused in the past, but if anyone had a chance to see how both Nucoda and now, Baselight do the pre-caching, they will understand the wonderful interactivity, full time full resolution and no degradation of performance with use of NR and NO RENDER at the end of the session! All render is done in the background. I understand the sexiness of doing everything in real time with no render, but unless you have 8-16 GPUs that’s not really practical…
