Attempting to create a Broadcast Master File
Hello All,
I’m currently attempting to create a ProRes file for a HDCAM broadcast master. The original file is in 1080p 23.98 and I have to deliver the file in 1080i 59.95. What is the best method for doing this.
Also, whats the best method for adding the broadcast safe filter. I attempted to create a sequence with a nested file to add the broadcast safe filter to all of the footage I one swoop, but when I add the filter the nested sequence is reopened as the original edit with all the individual edits scattered throughout the timeline which makes adjustments to the bc filter a bit of nightmare because i cant apply a universal change without opening each clip and applying the changes to the filter. Would it be best to export the file and then reimport the file into a new sequence and then apply the broadcast safe filter to make global adjustments to the filter.

If it’s ging to be layed off to an HDCAM, then the FCP system should have an I/O card, like an AJA Kona3. This card can do the 23.98 to 59.94 cross conversion in real time. This is pretty common. Are you being told you cannot do this?
If you cannot – and you need to do your own 23.98–> 59.94 cross conversion, you can test by exporting a short clip as a QT reference, and trying the presets in Compression, then “season to taste”. Hardware cross converts are usually better, so I’d try and do that if possible, over Compressor. Another option is look into a 3rd party software transcoder, like Episode by Telestream.
In the browser, select the nested sequence and load it in the viewer. Click on effects, and drag the filter onto the viewer. This will place the filter on the nested sequence, not the individual clip. Now make your adjustments and it will effect the entire nested sequence.
