Attach Point issue/question
I am new to AE 6.5 Professional having moved from 4.1 Production Bundle recently. I am working on a project that basically involves placing a feathered mask of an adult speaking (close-up of mouth only) and putting this on a QT video of a baby. Basic stuff. The adult was taped so that no stabilizing or tracking is needed. The baby’s head weaves and bobbles, so I need to track that motion and apply it to the QT masked adult’s mouth. (I have done this with a couple of test passes using the corner of the mouth and edge of the nose–so no problem getting good information.) I can do this manually frame by frame adding rotation information as needed, but obviously I can save time by using features in Tracking. My software manual is at my office. I’m trying to get a jump on this by working at home on an eMac.
The online help mentions an ATTACH POINT and crosshairs. I absolutely don’t see any crosshairs. This seems to be the missing link for me to make this work easily. The online help doesn’t illustrate how to locate them, and I have looked high and low in the Motion Tracking areas for what I expect to find. In the comp I see an Attach Point layer entry, but I need to adjust or create an OFFSET somehow, someway, so that I can make the adult’s mouth move with the baby’s head. What am I missing?
Also, when I select my Motion Target layer in the Tracker controls and twirl down the Motion Trackers in the comp timeline, all of the keyframe points are offset +10 or more seconds. Why is that? I am beginning my tracking at 0:00, and assumed that I would be applying the stabilizing keyframe information beginning at the same point.
Sorry for the elementary nature of these questions. These are new features to me and I hope to accomplish some work at home without the benefit of the software manual.
My system at home is vey basic. At my work (my church) I have G5 Dual 2gig processor with 1.5 gigs of RAM, 1.8 Tb Huge Systems Media Vault — video editing in Final Cut Pro.
Thanks,
