Sorry to post this here but there is no Atomos forum and I found the most posts about the Ninja in this forum.

I recently bought one and was excited about recording directly to ProRes. Did a quick test and everything seemed fine. Used a camera and hard drives approved by Atomos. Formatted the drives in the Ninja.

Did a shoot 2 days later that was a complete disaster. The Ninja seemed to be recording correctly and played back video on it’s screen without issue. When I tried to play video from the Ninja drives on a Mac I could only see a solid green screen and there was no audio. When I tried to copy the files to the mac I got an error message that the data could not be read or written. Tried 2 different macs running 10.6.8. Tried a Mac running 10.7.1 and a Windows Vista machine, each of which said that the drives needed to be formatted. Fortunately I checked and found these problems during the shoot so I switched to the AVCHD recording in camera.

I have sent a support ticket to Atomos but have not had a reply. They do not have a number to call. Really wishing I had bought an AJA.

the firewire connection from the ninja to apples latest operating system doesn’t work. apparently its a bug they are trying to fix. in the meantime you can use the usb connection. not sure if this helps but i had that problem. there is a contact number on the atomos website.

It’s starting to look the the problem is a defective dock. Sorry about being cranky about lack of response from Atomos- didn’t realize that they are in Australia!

Hi, just wondering if you ever resolved this problem. Same thing is happening to me and I’ve been waiting 2 days for a reply from atomos. Thanks!

The problem was a bad dock. Once I had a replacement (and updated the firmware) there were no more problems. I use it regularly now, although I wish I had the newer version with HDMI out. They offered current owners a discount on the new model but I do not see it mentioned on their site anymore.
