A producer wanted an animation that would be based on the Atom Strand template (the first template of the first group in the Template Choose). That meant I had to learn what made it tick. I learned three things in the process that I would like to pass along so I made a quick ‘n dirty tutorial at:

    https://newsvideo.com/atom/

Did you know that the “ball” is a flat circle that always faces the camera?
Did you know that the path that the balls follow is a paint stroke that is extended into z-space?
Did you know that it’s easy to add material to the Library?

I didn’t know these things but I share the secrets here for those of you who are like me and want to know how its done.

Very useful mini-tutorial Don, many thanks for that!

Is the Sequence Paint behaviour the only way you can extend a paint stroke into 3D space?

I have no idea if Sequence Paint is the ONLY way to extend a paint stroke into 3D space but I suspect that it is. If you look at the Aton Strand template you’ll notice how versatile Sequence Paint is. It’s also used to send those pulses of color through the strand of pearls.
