I stand corrected: this card has no connection point for the Y-connector. I have pulled it out and am sending it to ATI to see what magic they can incant upon it.

    thanks again!

Yes, i suppose. I bought it online at PC Connection in December of 2007, so hopefully they gave whatever newest version was available. Either way, it is now enroute to ATI HQ! Hopefully they can fix or replace it quickly.

    thanks again!

    HEY!

Guess who got a package in the mail today from ATI??? Ya, my card has been returned…with virtually no communication from the company as to what was wrong with it or whether they fixed or replaced it. Either way, I’m SO glad it is back. It’s working fine right now and after having it gone for 6 weeks, it probably would’ve been far more cost-effective to have just run out and bought a brand new one. My old card was slow enough that I’m sure i spent more than $300 worth of time over these 6 weeks waiting on screen redraws. Oh well…live and learn.

I would go ahead and send yours in if you haven’t already, but be forewarned it might take awhile. If your secondary card is “good enough”, i would say go for it…

    Take care…

    thanks again!

Not me… I never sent mine. Guess I will now. But keep me posted on the performance you get please.

And hey, how did you slip through the pasture rails again with your nickname?

Your real name was up for a while. I thought pseudonyms were a think of the past.

Well, here we are a few months later, with the same problem. I’ve had my 800 card out of the computer for awhile, but not much work to worry about. ERROR. I should’ve got this card problem fixed while I was slow, because now I’m (very thankfully!) getting a LITTLE busier.

I contacted ATI again re: the overheating problem, and this time it is out of warranty so they won’t fix it (at least, not for free) and yet they didn’t even give me an estimate on how much they would charge. So next step…going to my local Mac Store to see if they can do anything, or if I just need to buy a new card. Anyone else having this recurring problem with this card…or have you all just moved on to the next one? Again, this one doesn’t have the other power connector, so it looks like it’s just time to buy a new card unless any of you have a solution to let me limp along a little longer?

    Thanks again!

Just got a reply from ATI (AMD):

    Dear Customer,

Your service request : SR #{ticketno:[8200177443]} has been reviewed and updated.

    Response and Service Request History:

Out of warranty service is offered by AMD in special cases. Unfortunately because RMA no longer stocks the parts to reapair your series of boards this is not an option on your product. Your only option at this point in time is to replace the card with a retail/etail purchase

In order to update this service request, please respond, leaving the service request reference intact.

    Best regards,

    AMD Global Customer Care

So, that card will be going onto craigslist (just kidding). What is the latest and greatest card for a PowerMac G5? I would like to be able to run Motion 3 at a decent pace, and it would be really cool to even be able to open “Color”.

    Thanks again!
