Ater Effect error when trying to render Quicktime file
Posted by Stan Weiss on October 5, 2014 at 2:03 pmGreetings..
looking for help with a newly developed problem.
I am using Win 7 64 with 32 RAM and AE CC or AE CC 2014..after setting my compositon and then trying to render to a QT file I get an error message saying that AE can’t open the file..i can render to AVI just fine…tried reinstalling QT but that did not help.
Any info to help solve this issue would be appreciated.
thanks

October 6, 2014 at 4:30 pmWhat, exact, version of CC are you running?
What version of QT?
Can CS6 still render QuickTime files?– The Great Szalam

October 6, 2014 at 4:46 pmQT version = 7.7.1
AE CC version = 12.2.1.5and CS 6 does not render..
I actually have CS6, CC and CC2014 all installed and none can render it…
this seems to have started only since I loaded the Creative Cloud suite..when i had CS6 alone all was good…i appreciate your help..

October 6, 2014 at 5:06 pmAs far as I know, CC doesn’t mess with your QuickTime install and I know it doesn’t effect CS6 at all, so the issue may lie somewhere else and may be just a coincidence that it appeared to coincide with the install of CC.
Any changes in your OS (updates, etc.)?
Any changes in security software (antivirus, anti-malware, firewall, etc.)?
Have any third-party codec packs been installed (k-lite, etc.)? K-lite, in particular, has been known to cause a lot of issues with professional video applications.
Have you installed any software lately, such as GoPro studio?Try these troubleshooting steps: https://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2011/02/troubleshooting-quicktime-errors-with-after-effects.html

October 6, 2014 at 5:50 pmThere have been a number of folks with QuickTime problems that originated with GoPro studio.
Nice thing is that today’s update to AE (13.1.0) comes with native Cineform decoding, so you don’t need GoPro’s software to work with their footage.– The Great Szalam

October 6, 2014 at 6:02 pmIt sounds like a permissions issue as detailed here [link].

October 6, 2014 at 7:56 pmOK..problem partially solved…
i generally run all my projects on one of my USB 3.0 portable drives so i can move from home to office and back seamlessly..my two machines are configured exactly the same…
after reading the error message again i decided to try and render the QT file to my c or d drive which are the built in drives and then I had no problem..all rendered perfectly…
when i try to render to any of my 3 USB drives…then i get the error message..but i do not get the error message with any other render except QT file output..if i try to render an AVI file it has no problem rendering to the removeable drive…so at least i have a workaround and can continue my project..
i will continue to try and see why QT is a problem..thanks for your efforts here!!

October 6, 2014 at 8:15 pmOoh, I should have asked about storage. Odd that it wouldn’t work, but at least you’re at a workable state.
