ATEM Television Studio Camera Inputs
Posted by Armando Irias on April 22, 2012 at 9:50 pmI am interested in purchasing the ATEM Television Studio to switch three cameras. The cameras I have been working for the past few years are the Sony PD-170 which have a composite video out. Is there a way which I can still use these cameras with the Television Studio? What kind of converter would I have to acquire to input the video into the Television Studio? Is this possible?
Thanks,Carlos a. Vazquez ii replied 13 years, 9 months ago 4 Members · 7 Replies -

April 23, 2012 at 10:39 pmYou would need component to either HDMI or HD-SDI converters because those are the only inputs available on the TVD. The ATEM 1 has 1 component input but it would be cheaper just to buy a few converters which black magic sells as well.

June 9, 2012 at 8:10 amI have a question. If my cameras have already hdmi output, may I use them with the ATEM TVS?
Shouldn’t I pay attention to the ATEM input resolution and cameras resolution? The specs of the ATEM TVS say:
HD Format Support 1080i50, 1080i59.94, 720p50, 720p59.94
SD Format Support 625/25 PAL, 525/29.97 NTSCDoes this mean that I have to choose video cameras which have the exact resolution?
I’d like to buy these cameras but I’m afraid they aren’t compatible:

July 23, 2012 at 9:39 pmI haven’t bought the ATEM TVS yet. I don’t have enough money at this time. But I have done some more research. As far as I can see, the only way you may use the SX40HS and the ATEM TVS together is by setting BOTH OF THEM at 720p and nothing else. Didn’t see the camera is able to output 1080i or the ATEM to input the 1080p. So your only try is to set them on 720p. Good luck and leave a reply if it worked! 😀

July 24, 2012 at 9:13 amI’m not an expert either. I’ve learned a lot in the past year while doing research regarding the TVS and compatible cameras.
There is a difference between i and p for sure. More details you may find on wikipedia. Here is an useful link:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1080iI’ve had some trouble finding compatible cameras because of those inputs. There are some websites where you may find some more details and help:

July 24, 2012 at 8:11 pmThank you Sam!
Iknew that was something to do with that!
cause I know by a fact
that atem tvs is very picky about input signal
does not like it to have different rates of any kind
i had this canon vixi a hfr30 and works great @ 1080 from stem
but this other canon i mentioned before does not work as a signal imput for video.
i have the atem tvs i love it its just a matter of time
and i will be rocking!!!
i ll keep you posted!!!
